02 · Repair or replace?

When to repair, when to replace

Every job is different, but this is how it usually works out.
  • Close-up of cracks running across a concrete slab

    Fine surface cracks

Usually cosmetic. If the slab is otherwise sound, a repair or resurface is often enough.

  • Worker cutting concrete with a walk-behind saw

    One bad section

A broken, sunken or lifted section can often be cut out and replaced on its own.

  • Worn or stained surface

Resurfacing and sealing can freshen up concrete that’s still structurally sound.

  • Breaking up all over

When cracks are wide, still growing or have moved out of level across the whole area, replacing it is usually the better long-term fix.

Repair FAQs

Should I repair my concrete or replace it?

Fine cracks and a tired surface can usually be repaired or resurfaced. A sunken or broken section can often be cut out and replaced on its own. If it’s breaking up all over, or cracks are wide and still growing, replacing it is usually better. We’ll tell you which makes sense when we see it.

Why did my concrete crack?

Common causes are shrinkage as the concrete dried, ground movement, tree roots, or loads heavier than the slab was built for. Knowing the cause tells us whether a repair will last.

Will a repair match my old concrete?

We’ll get it as close as we can, but new concrete is almost always a different shade from old concrete at first. Sometimes it looks neater to replace a whole panel, from joint to joint.

Do you cut concrete?

Yes. Concrete cutting is part of our maintenance work: cutting out damaged sections, new joints and openings.

Is the quote free?

Yes. Quotes and site visits are both free. Call 021 0270 7750 or use the quote form on this page.
