01 · What we do

Driveway work

  • 01

    Steep driveways & hill work

Hill work is part of what we do. On a steep drive the finish you choose affects grip, so we talk through the options at the free site visit.

  • 02

    Long rural driveways

Driveways and access for lifestyle blocks, farms and rural homes, however far it is from the road to the house.

  • 03

    Vehicle crossings

The stretch where your driveway meets the road. Most councils need a permit for a new crossing, which you apply for as the owner; see the questions below.

  • 04

    Replacing an old driveway

If your driveway is cracked or worn out, we can repair and resurface it, or take it out and pour a new one, whichever makes more sense.

02 · Finishes

Pick your finish

Finishes include acid wash, exposed aggregate, coloured concrete, saw-cut joints, broom and trowel.

  • Terracotta coloured concrete patio along the front of a house

    Coloured concrete

Concrete in a colour other than standard grey, to suit the house or garden.

  • Freshly finished driveway with saw-cut joints, next to a dark garage and stone wall

    Saw-cut joints

Joints cut in a neat pattern across the slab.

  • 05

    Broom

    A brushed texture with grip.

  • 06

    Trowel

    A smooth finish.

115-metre steep driveway

A long, steep driveway concreted by Matthew and the team. In the client’s words:

“Matt and his team recently concreted our 115 meter steep driveway. The service that Matt gave was faultless - prompt site visit, completed the job when he said he would and the finished work was superb. His charges were very fair and competitive and he was a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend Matt”

Driveway FAQs

Is the quote free?

Yes. Quotes and site visits are both free. Call 021 0270 7750 or use the quote form on this page.

Do I need council approval for a vehicle crossing?

Usually, if your driveway joins a council road. Far North District Council needs a vehicle crossing permit before the crossing is built. Private roads and rights of way don’t need a council permit, and crossings onto a state highway go through NZTA. The permit is arranged by the property owner.

Can you do a steep driveway?

Yes. Hill work is part of what we do, like the 115-metre steep driveway on this page.

Will my new driveway crack?

Concrete shrinks a little as it dries, so some fine cracking is normal. Saw-cut joints give it a planned place to crack, in a straight line hidden in the joint, instead of at random. A well-prepared base and the right reinforcement help too.

When can I drive on my new driveway?

Concrete keeps getting stronger for weeks after it’s poured, so it’s ready for feet well before it’s ready for cars. How long depends on the mix and the weather. We’ll tell you when it’s safe to walk on and when it’s safe to drive on.
